Opportunity To Serve: Special Olympics Silicon Valley- January 2024
Special Olympics 2024 basketball program for our Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister athletes where we have volunteer coaching opportunities available. Basketball practices will be held at the Gilroy High School Main Gym located at 750 W. 10th St., Gilroy, CA on Sundays from 3-5PM, January 14 through March 3, 2024. Shortly after the practices are complete, there is a regional basketball competition that will be held on a weekend in the San Jose area.
The student volunteer coaches must be at least 14 years old. We ask our coaches to commit to the 8 weeks of practice and the regional competition that follows. They will need to apply as a coach volunteer, complete some online training, if over 18 complete a background check, and be approved as Special Olympic volunteer coach prior to participating in any practices. It normally only takes a few days to receive approval. The students will receive an email confirmation (please check spam/junk folder) that they are approved. Once approved, please have them forward the approval email to me at 5mcr@omcast.net and let me know that they intend to participate.
