VCHS Opportunity to Serve as an intern this summer at Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley
Summer
2023 wildlife rehabilitation internship here at the Wildlife Center of Silicon
Valley in San Jose. Please pass this information along to anyone who you think
may be interested.
This
is an unpaid on-the-job learning opportunity for dedicated, hard-working
individuals interested in wildlife rehabilitation. Interested individuals can
apply on our website. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older. Once
applications are screened, we will contact selected applicants to schedule an
interview. The application, along with additional information including a quick
video, is available at http://wcsv.org/intern. Please email any questions
to intern@wcsv.org. Applications are due February
28, 2023.
Accepted
interns will be on-site for three days per week for 12 weeks, and are expected
to attend discussion groups every other week. Four different internship terms
are available to accommodate a variety of school schedules. Interns will work
closely with our Animal Care staff and receive instruction on all aspects of
Wildlife Rehabilitation: examination, medication, wound care, treatment,
housing, and diet. There will be a final exam upon completion of the
internship.
The
schedules for internship terms 2 and 3 have been carefully designed to
accommodate as many local colleges and universities as possible. We understand
that most high school summer breaks are only 10 weeks long. While we are unable
to make significant schedule accommodations due to the nature of the
internship, we can work with exceptional applicants from local high schools if
they are still able to attend the Saturday meetings.
We
also invite anyone who is unable to commit to applying for the internship to
check out our volunteer program. This is a much smaller time commitment of one
four-hour shift per week, and details are available here: http://wcsv.org/volunteer
