Unit 1: Numerical Expressions and Factors

Unit Learning Outcomes

Students will review their their previous knowledge on the number system.
Students will learn to perform mathematical operations using exponents. 
Students will learn and apply orders of operations.
Students will review LCM and GCF concepts. 

Unit Biblical Integration Goals

Students will discuss and discover how intricately Math and Bible are related. 
Students will understand the importance of working together in math class from a biblical perspective - Hebrews 10:24-25.
Students will discuss what it means to do their math work as if working for the Lord - Colossians 3:23.

Unit Standards

6.NS.2 - Fluently divide multi digit numbers using standard algorithm. 
6.NS.4 - Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1–100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor.

Objectives:

Students will get to know each other and the instructor by playing a game.
Students will learn how math is embedded everywhere in nature.
