Opportunity To Serve:Special Olympics Coach
Special Olympics is looking for volunteer coaches and team assistants for our San Jose Track and Field program. Practices are being held at Del Mar High School (1224 Del Mar Ave, San Jose) on Saturdays from 9-11 AM March 30-May 4 and one Sunday practice on May 12 from 9-11 AM. Following practices, there is a one-day regional Spring Games competition held on May 18 at Cupertino High School.
Student volunteer coaches and team assistants must be at least 14 years old. We ask our coaches to commit to the 7 weeks of practice and the regional competition that follows. We ask that out team assistants commit to at least 4 practices. Students need to apply as a coach volunteer for either position, complete some online training, if over 18 complete a background check, and be approved as Special Olympic volunteer, prior to participating in any practices. It normally only takes a few days to get approved after completing the abovementioned steps. Students will receive community service hours for applying, completing the online training, and attending practices and the competition. If students need help applying or have any questions about the program, they may contact Mark Reynolds, by email, text, or phone at 5mcr@comcast.net or (510) 299-4948.
