VCHS Summer Opportunity To Serve- Diversity Matters Club Service Trip
Join Diversity Matters in our third service trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation, the second largest Native American Reservation in the US that is also tragically one of our nation’s poorest areas, with a staggeringly low life expectancy of 50 years.
On this service trip, you will have the unparalleled opportunity to:
- Empower this community by designing and leading unique workshops in fields such as engineering, the arts, math, reading, writing, theater, and more, for ~70 children on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
- Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Lakota people. These cultural immersion activities may include: meeting with tribal leaders, touring local schools, feeding Bison, and so much more!
- Earn 15+ church hours through the Pine Ridge Reconciliation Center
Each volunteer will lead their workshop for approximately one week. A summer schedule will be created based on our volunteers’ availabilities. We are looking for around 50 volunteers in total (10-15 per week), including both students and guardians.
Estimated Cost of staying at the Pine Ridge Reconciliation Center: $245/week Partial Scholarships are available on a need basis!
