Prerequisite
Completion of Pre-Calculus Honors with a grade of B or higher and a score of 85% or higher on the 2nd Semester Final Exam or AP Calculus AB with a grade of B or higher. A placement examination may be required. Students must complete a summer assignment.
The AP Calculus BC course is a full-year course in the calculus of functions of a single variable. The course covers all topics required in AP Calculus AB, with additional (Calculus C) topics, including integration by parts, integration by partial fractions, MacLaurin and Taylor series, and calculus applied to parametric and polar equations. This course begins by reviewing pre-calculus (Calculus A) topics at a quick pace, assuming coverage in a previous math course. The course makes extensive use of pre-requisite math skills, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. Students who take this course should do so with the intention of placing out of a comparable college calculus course. The AP Calculus BC course is designed to cover two semesters of college calculus. This course includes a rigorous review for the AP Calculus BC examination.

Note: A student who has a grade of 'F' in the 1st Semester of the course will NOT be permitted to continue in the course 2nd Semester.

Special Note: A TI-84+ graphing calculator is required.

Prerequisite
Grade of B or higher in AP Calculus BC and earned scores of 4 or 5 on both the AB and BC subscores of the AP Calculus BC exam.
Students begin by reviewing topics from AP Calculus BC, covering differential and integral calculus of a single variable. Students receive more in-depth instruction on advanced related rates, solids of revolution (including shell method), and advanced integration techniques. The principal topics of this course are the differential and integral calculus of several variables and their application to scalar and vector fields. Course content includes calculus of vector valued functions, partial derivatives, min-max problems of functions of several variables, and double and triple integrals. This course is a second year university level course.

Note: A student who fails the 1st Semester of the course will NOT be permitted to continue in the course 2nd Semester.

Special Note: A TI-84+ graphing calculator is required.

Piano I or Instructor Approval/Placement.
Piano II is a piano course where students will divide their time between individual practice, group practice, listening, journaling and harmonic analysis. Students will be challenged in sight-reading, ensemble playing and technique but will also have ample time to practice their solo repertoire. Technique and sight-reading assignments will aid in improving ensemble skills. Without proficient sight- reading skills, successful accompanying and ensemble playing is impossible. Consequently, we will have several sight-reading units.

In addition, students will deepen their knowledge of music history and theory. We will cover performance practices from each historical period, vocabulary, triads, 7th chords, and harmonic analysis. The ability to audiate music before it is played will be included in this course. To aid in this, we will have regular ear training assignments. This course will give our piano students a chance to connect with other pianists in a fun and challenging way. This course can be repeated multiple years for credit.
