Physics Honors
Physics Honors is a conceptually rich exploration of the fundamental principles that govern the physical world. It is designed for students who are curious, motivated, and eager to think deeply. Honors Physics prepares students for subsequent advanced courses in mathematics and science, including AP Physics 1.
Students will explore topics including kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion, energy and momentum, rotational motion, gravitation, and simple harmonic motion.
Physics Honors moves at a brisk pace and expects a high level of engagement, persistence, and intellectual curiosity. Students enrolled in the course are expected to develop refined and advanced critical thinking skills and apply those skills in assessments and labs. The course is designed for students who enjoy science and math and are willing to do a significant amount of independent work to review concepts discussed in the course. Students have the expectation of high quality work. Laboratory work will reinforce topics, develop students’ reasoning power, and the ability to apply physics principles.
Successful students will leave the course with a deep conceptual understanding of physics, strengthened mathematical skills, and a greater appreciation for the patterns and principles that shape the universe.
Additional Expectations: It is important that students enrolling in this course have mathematical competency in Algebra and Geometry. Students will need strong critical thinking skills to apply concepts learned to solve new problems.
