AP Physics 1
AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course that covers topics such as kinematics, Newton's laws of motion, torque, rotational motion, angular momentum, gravitation, circular motion, work, energy, power, linear momentum, oscillations, and fluids. Through inquiry-based learning, students develop critical thinking and scientific reasoning skills. This course is more conceptual than AP Physics C, focusing on building a solid understanding of physics principles. AP Physics 1 also emphasizes skills essential for success in physics and college, fostering a pursuit of excellence and a confident grasp of the subject matter.
Additional Expectations: Students will extensively use algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as essential tools to analyze and understand core physics concepts. A strong foundation in these mathematical areas is crucial for success in the course. Students who feel uncertain about their math skills should consult with the physics teacher before enrolling. Additionally, this course emphasizes conceptual problem-solving and requires strong critical thinking skills to apply learned concepts to new situations. Students should be prepared for rigorous analysis and problem-solving throughout the course.
