ASL IV Honors
American Sign Language IV will continue to build the fundamentals learned in ASL I-III. Over 500 new vocabulary words will be introduced. Students will master facial expressions, body movements, and will polish clarity of signs. Students will complete conversations and naturalize the flow in spontaneous conversations. Special attention will be given to application of complex grammatical principles, including non-manual signals and temporal/distributional aspects. Students will learn the fundamental areas of linguistic inquiry (phonology, morphology, syntax, and the use of language) and will be introduced to the phonological, morphological, syntactical, and sociolinguistic structures of ASL.
