Ceramics III (H)
In this this course, students will create a series of 3-dimentional works of art which contain the principles of art and design as well as responses to historical, thematic, and cultural prompts, learn and apply appropriate vocabulary in verbal and written analysis of their work and the work of others, participate in the discussion of current and historical roles of 3-dimensional art in society, and create sophisticated, art forms from in the medium of clay and glaze. Student’s work will reflect well thought-out and rigorous planning, explain or justify themes and aesthetic decisions making, demonstrate confidence in their knowledge of the workability of the clay body and finishing techniques, and justify their thought process as it connects to the world in which they live. Students will plan and form original works of art which will be readily added to college/art school application process and submission in juried art competitions and exhibitions.
The honors class will have the requirement on additional work time added outside of the regular meeting time. This class will also require students to submit work to a minimum of two different ceramic juried shows. The artist will also create a digital portfolio of their work which includes images on a gradient background, and written artist statement. (students learn photographing skills and lighting techniques).
