Pre-Calculus

Pre-Calculus is designed to challenge students who have completed Algebra II.  This course helps students gain comprehension of and proficiency in high-level foundational concepts.  Students can move on to Math for Business Applications, Calculus Honors, or Statistics Honors after this course.

This one-year course covers all major topics in trigonometry and pre-calculus using the techniques that students have previously learned from their study of algebra and geometry; the trigonometry includes basic properties of trigonometric functions, various angle notations, trigonometric identities, and Laws of Sines and Cosines. The pre-calculus portion reviews and extends various topics and concepts learned in Algebra II.

The course prepares students for the study of calculus and strengthens their conceptual understanding of problems and mathematical reasoning in solving problems.  This is especially important for students intending to study calculus, statistics, or business math in college.

Special Note: A TI-84+ graphing calculator is required.
