The weather is warm, with long airplane travel days.
Cultural Experience: High
Students will be fully immersed in the life and community of Rwanda.
Spiritual Experience: High
This trip is geared towards strong Christian students. A large majority of the work will be conducted at a local church and in collaboration with local pastors. Students will spend each night in reflection, prayer, and worship.
Level of Emotion: Medium
Students will experience poverty and lasting effects of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.
In remote Rwandan villages, many children are forced to drop out of school due to poverty, leaving them highly vulnerable to child marriage, abandonment, hunger, disease, and exploitation. This fuels a cycle of poverty that feels inescapable to them. By partnering with local churches and community leaders, we work to keep children in school and address the barriers that prevent them from attending, offering hope, stability, and a sustainable future for them and their families.
Valley students will have the opportunity to work towards breaking the cycle of poverty in a local village in Rwanda by experiencing the transformational work being done through the local church. We partner with Basileia Mission, which is a non-profit of Pastor Coach Gus Ministries, which works to build vocational schools for students who have aged out of the school system, send primary and secondary aged students into their local schools, and pour into local pastors and community development leaders.
