Impact Vision: In partnership with committed VCHS parent(s)/guardian(s) and missionaries across the world, the IMPACT program’s purpose is to create a Christ-centered program that provides students the opportunity to be as servant-learners, discover their gifts, experience authentic community, and live a life of love following the Way of Jesus.
Service experiences are oriented toward compassionate mission outreach and cultural awareness. In preparation for the trip, the teams will participate in team-building activities, as well as missionary and discipleship training. In every case, local or abroad, our desire is that Valley Christian students will model Christ’s Way of love as they engage the needs of others and build relationships.
IMPACT formula:
GO...we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God. 2 Cor. 5:20
SERVE...we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. Eph 2:10
be TRANSFORMED...in love, seek and share the Kingdom. Romans 12
History
IMPACT's genesis began in 2004 with Valley Christian's first international trip to Guatemala with now-elementary school principal Dr. Gabe Guven at the helm. IMPACT gained momentum in 2008 when a student-created club traveled to South Africa with Mr. Myron Falkowski to work alongside Mama Agnes, who fed and clothed over 100 marginalized children who walked to school past her house.
IMPACT's vision, of partnering with ministries around the world who are showing the love of Jesus in tangible ways within their community, has grown into a program with hundreds of Valley Christian students participating in over a dozen trips annually as coordinated by the current director, Mrs. Cindy Torode.
Overview
IMPACT helps VCHS students move beyond the classroom and the local community by offering immersive cultural experiences. Students show the love of Jesus by meeting the needs of people and working alongside our local partner missionaries to share the redemptive power of Christ.
Valley students travel as humble servant-learners. We serve our partner organizations and their visions through humanitarian efforts, support, and prayer.
VCHS mission trips are part of a long-term effort to:
1. Participate in the global body of Christ; by visiting our brothers and sisters in their own homes, we better understand our active role in the body and build respect for what others contribute that is equally important to our efforts.
2. Build relationships with a partner organization. VCHS works throughout the year to identify how we can best serve alongside our partner missionaries during our visit. Some of our local partners also visit VCHS to share in chapels and assist us in our ministry.
3. Grow students' spiritual depth and global self-awareness. These visits provide intensive reflection opportunities and allow students to develop a richer perspective on the culture visited and our own cultural backgrounds.
Learn, fellowship, and encourage. We aim to walk humbly alongside our fellow missionaries, allowing us to listen, learn, and build relationships, reconciling ourselves to one another. We can also encourage our local partners who work tirelessly throughout the year.
