Class Homepage

  • This performing arts class is for students who want to learn beginning dance technique. This course focuses on four basic strands of dance - foundations; perception and creative expression; historical and cultural relevance; and critical evaluation and response - which provide broad, unifying structures for organizing the knowledge and skills students are expected to acquire. Students will develop muscle tone, flexibility, proper dance alignment, technical strength, and performance ability. Students will develop a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, world dance, and lyrical. Please note this class will require afterschool rehearsals the week prior to the performance. Due to Junior Conservatory Dance classes being performance-based, participation and attendance to daily classes, technical rehearsals, tech week, and performance dates for Conservatory Christmas Chapel and DanceScapes are mandatory.

Prerequisite: This course is for seventh and eighth grade students and no audition is required. This course may be repeated multiple years. A class participation fee of $75.00 is required to participate in this course. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Michelle McLaughlin at mmclaughlin@vcs.net if you have any questions.
